I’ve been playing Dementium – The Ward for the Nintendo DS for about a day now and I have to admit that it’s pretty creepy! The graphics are decent and the sound is phenomenal for the DS. There’s definitely an aspect of gore and psycho-craziness. The game starts you off riding in a chair through hallways of blood and a scary little girl and then in to a little hospital room with eerie sounds and dim lighting. The next major scene shows a pretty creepy situation where a kid’s being dragged down the hallway, reaching desperately, as the assailant is carrying a very large knife.
Overall the play controls are a little tricky, especially when you’re attempting to shoot something with your gun and it can get a little hairy when you try to use the night stick against two guys. I like the theme though, it’s a good step away from a lot of the games that are based towards the younger generation. With the DS obviously bridging the generation gap, this is a prime opportunity for Nintendo to start licensing games that appeal more towards adults to take advantage of those of us that have grown up with the name.
Though it’s a small step in the right direction of game making, it’s still a step. With this game giving a good scare when you’re laying in bed with the lights out, all I can hope is that it continues through out the game and that the plot stays solid.
