I ?ve noticed a funny thing about the bums about the ?bums of Baltimore. ? In downtown they can be fairly aggressive which I believe is more to the fact that they ?re not really bums but people that are too lazy to work and just resort to begging for money. Fells Point has kind of been a funny bunch. They ?re not as aggressive as downtown bums but more aggressive than Canton bums (which I ?ll get to later.)
In Fells Point they have a pretty sweet deal due to the bars and the crowd on Broadway but you still get the feeling that they ?re not really bums. They ?re people who, like downtown, are just too lazy or have enough low self esteem to beg for money on the streets. Too many times have I seen a person who just asks for random change, attempting to take advantage of people ?s kindness just to make a quick dollar or two (or more, who knows?)I ?ve not experienced the
Federal Hill bums much because we don ?t go down there often. It ?s something about going to what could be a fun place to hang out if you didn ?t have a bunch of wannabe 21 year olds running around with popped collars and pink polo ?s ?fags. Canton bums are a different breed all together. The bums of Canton actually seem like real bums. I don ?t know where they sleep but I do know they ?re general personalities and their habits. There ?s quite a few of them that have their carts and they do their ?begging ? but they ?re not aggressive at all. They ?re personable, in a sense, and not very aggressive. There was actually a barbeque in the Canton square that the bums all got together and threw. There ?s a couple unusual ones that have done some interesting things, like chase one of my friends screaming and cursing, or talking randomly to herself, but they don ?t chase you down for your money or cigarettes. The most interesting thing about them is that they usually keep to themselves and most of the people in Canton don ?t bother them at all. It ?s not like downtown where it ?s a different person each day that ?s wearing nice shoes and has clean nails begging you for your cash because they don ?t want to wait in the unemployment line to attempt to get their lives out of the gutters.
