Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King

As per a friends request (and warning) I sat down this week to check out Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King. First off, the game is a downloadable content piece from the Wii Shop. Nintendo has started to add not just roms from old systems but games that are considered “WiiWare” and you can pay a small fee to download and play. I’ve always been skeptical of downloadable games unless there’s a demo but in this case I was going on a friends opinion.

The game is a mix of The Sims and Simcity with the theme of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the DS. The play is fun and interesting as well as not overly complicated. The game development is fun and kept me involved well past bed time. I logged over 3 hours the first sitting and wanted to play all the next day.

I’m glad that I made the purchase and even made additional purchases through their downloadable content section that lets you add more to the game.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Nintendo’s New Copy Protection

Is Nintendo finally wising up and going after the software piracy on their DS by changing out the games work within the carts? With the new release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles The Rings of Fate for the DS the piracy sites have been all a buzz about the warning screen that shows up randomly. The screen will pop up and say “Thank you for playing.” I’ll give credit to Nintendo for trying, I would truly to what ever I could if I was losing out on millions of dollars a year due to piracy.

Piracy Warning on FFCC

I’ll admit, I’ve checked what all the talk is about and it’s way to easy for some one to go out and purchase what is needed to pirate games on the Nintendo DS. Worst of all it’s not like the places to get these games are hard to find.

I can understand the desire for home brew on the DS, as a matter of fact, it should be fully supported by Nintendo. Some of the games that I’ve played that are considered home brew are phenomenal games; they’re fun and innovative and at the same time free.

Nintendo, I applaud you at your attempt to protect yourself from piracy!

EDIT:

As one of my friends pointed out, this very well could be Squre-Enix more than Nintendo. I’m sure after seeing how many people were stealing Dragon Quest Monters: Joker and playing it online, this could be a response to that.
